Mohamed El-Erian

Internationally acclaimed economist; President of Queens’ College, the University of Cambridge

Dr. Mohamed El -Erian is an Egyptian-American economist. He currently assumes the role of the President of Queens’ College, the University of Cambridge. Widely regarded as a luminary in the field, he has garnered global acclaim, being named to Foreign Policy’s list of “Top 100 Global Thinkers” for four years in a row, an accolade emblematic of his profound impact on the global economic landscape and his pivotal role in fostering progress across various vital sectors.

Throughout his career, El -Erian has held numerous positions in leading financial and economic international institutions, organizations, advisory boards, and committees. He has lent his insights as the Chief Economic Advisor at Allianz, the corporate parent of PIMCO where he formerly served as Chief Executive and Co-Chief Investment Officer. Furthermore, he chaired the board of directors at Gramercy Fund Management, contributed as a board member at Barclays, and led the investment advisory board of Microsoft. He spent 15 years at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. where he served as the Deputy Director before moving to the private sector.

In addition to his corporate leadership, Dr. El -Erian served as the Chairman of President Obama’s Global Development Council. As a prolific author, his literary contributions encompass a diverse array of economic and financial topics, notably including the New York Times bestseller "When Markets Collide" published in 2008. He has received numerous awards and accolades in recognition of his scholarly contributions, active participation in economic conferences and seminars, and provision of economic consultations.

Dr. El -Erian holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Cambridge University and a Master's Degree and a Ph.D. in the same major from Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
